Technology Track - Computing at the Edge - Smart Endpoints, Devices & Security
Location: Padang Ballroom
John Fago - Executive Director, Global Partner Engagement, Ingram Micro
Synopsis
As IoT and other emerging technology applications proliferate and computing becomes more mission critical than ever before, generation, collection and analysis of data on the edge of the network assume bigger significance. Proponents of edge computing claim that computing at the edge is safer because data is not traveling over a network; however, opponents claim that edge computing is less secure since the IoT devices are more susceptible to begin with. Needless to mention that while edge computing spurs debate around cybersecurity, the future of the Cloud, the role of Data Centers and endless other topics, it is becoming increasingly clear that that its adoption, in one form or another, is inevitable. Compute and storage infrastructure companies are investing in billions in research and development, products and services to enable artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation at the edge of the network. Efforts are accelerating to create robust virtualization frameworks to extend hybrid and multi-cloud environments to the edge. Micro Data Centre solutions are being created to provide a physically and digitally secure solution for IT at theEdge from basic to advanced.

Title:
Build your Foundation for Innovation with IT Transformation
Synopsis:
“IT Transformation” and another industry term, “digital transformation,” sound synonymous but are different.

Digital transformation emphasises evolving to thrive in a digital economy—for example, using smart devices, connected sensors, and data-driven insights to out-innovate, out-think, and out-pace competitors. Digital transformation focuses on embracing change to become the disruptor, not the disrupted.

IT Transformation centers on modernising the underlying technology infrastructure, operations, and delivery of services. The organization becomes “more transformed” by growing beyond its reliance on rigid, manual, hard-to-maintain legacy technologies. IT Transformation enables speed, efficiency, scale, and cost-effectiveness—automating manual tasks and streamlining operations to free up resources and fuel digital future initiatives.

Individual apps and services that lack integration have created more complexity instead of stronger collaboration across teams.

Cisco makes working together what it should be — intuitive. People connect online like they do in person to make the most of their creative energy. Tools adapt, so teams don’t have to. No matter what devices they’re using, everyone feels like they’re part of the same team. People stay connected even after the meeting ends. Enhancing Business Productivity and Communications through Microsoft Teams
Synopsis:
Productivity remains one of the top issues facing businesses today. The way people can work in offices today is changing in front of our eyes which certainly opens up new possibilities for encouraging creativity and innovation. As companies embrace these often-complex possibilities and opportunities, they are increasingly finding it necessary to assign work to teams as opposed to individuals. This, in combination with the rise of remote working, has highlighted the need for a more seamless collaboration process. Whether all in the workplace, or geographically scattered, teams need to be able to effortlessly work together, share ideas, build off of each other, solve problems and more. The challenge will to be make sure it is not more complicated, confusing, or overwhelming. This will require better and different ways to communicate, collaborate, and network.

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based workspace that brings together chat, meetings, calling, and Office 365, all-in-one. And it’s built on the trust of Microsoft security & compliance that’s crucial for today’s businesses.
By harnessing the power of AI in Teams, we have an opportunity to really transform how people collaborate and communicate – making their experience more insightful, proactive and adaptive.

Hard Won Lessons from Real World IoT
Synopsis:
For years, IoT has been treated as a science experiment or a hack-a-thon with focus on the novelty of putting sensors on a ‘thing’ – pulling data into an analytics package, and creating some pretty dashboards. Of course, these early stage demos, or proofs of concept, are still a vital part of the process.

However, the real value of IoT is not from a successful experiment. Real value – for our customers, for enterprises looking to grow, looking to become more innovative, real value comes from implementing IoT in their business to generally do one of 4 things:

1. Become more efficient,
2. Improve the customer experience,
3. Reduce risk or
4. Change business models such as moving from capex to opex

This brings you out of the scientist, developer world and into a conference room, working with business leaders, to drive new
technology forward.
